Here’s a picture taken at the Raleigh meeting where my sister introduced Obama to the crowd. That’s her and her grandson, Zane, with him.
She said her grandson, my great-nephew, got a little bored waiting. But when Obama arrived, he came right over and introduced himself. They spoke and he thanked her for coming. Then he asked about Zane. Jean laughed and said he spent more time talking to Zane than to her. When he found out the young man was going into the fifth grade, he mentioned that one of his daughters was also.
Then Obama noticed Zane’s Duke tee shirt and called Reggie Love over to see. Love works for the Obama campaign and played basketball at Duke. Zane got a fist bump from Love.
They’d wondered about pictures and were told not to ask. But Obama himself suggested taking them. When Zane moved to let Obama have the middle, Obama said, “No, you’re the star here.”
My nephew said he was nice. High compliment for him. It was a big evening. He even got to meet the Governor.
After my sister introduced Obama and left the stage, several newspapers interviewed her. Upon telling them that her grandson talked to him the most, they asked him what they talked about. He loved all the attention.
