As a young man, CHEAP TRICK was one of my favorite bands. The contrast of two “rockers(Robin Zander on vocals, Tom Petersson on bass)” and two “nerds(Rick Nielsen on lead guitar and Bun E. Carlos on drums)” always fascinated me. It was calculated of course. The front of the early vinyl covers had the two rockers with the nerds safely on the back. The album LIVE AT BUDAKON is one of the best live metal albums I’ve ever heard. I remember at the time it was a hasty release. cheap Trick already had a recent album, but the Japanese imported album was selling like hot cakes over hear and the record company was losing sales.
I just missed a neat show at a nearby venue back then. Cheap Trick and AC/DC just before they hit the big time. Of course Cheap Trick never reached, or sustained, AC/DC’s heights. I was informed by friends I should have been there.
One more thing. Rick Nielsen is not the bastard son of Huntz Hall(famous foe The Dead End Kids and, as they got older, The Bowery Boys). As far as I know.
