THE MASKED RIDER’S JUSTICE(THE LONE RANGER AND TONTO)
KILLER ROUND-UP(THE LONE RANGER AND THE OUTLAW STRONGHOLD)
The second volume in PULPVILLE PRESS,s books with the original pulp magazine novels of Lone Ranger adventures contains the titles listed above(the titles in parentheses are the book versions that were rewritten and expanded for hardcover publication.
In the first, the Ranger and Tonto break an innocent young man, Dave Walters, out of jail just a few steps ahead of a lynch mob. He gets the boy’s story and the two friends go about figuring out who wants to frame the young man and why.
The second story revolves around an old conflict. The Ranger and Tonto find a man newly murdered, someone takes a shot at them, and discover a simple minded young man wandering around with a new gun. It hasn’t been fired. Someone had planned for the body to be discovered much later and the boy would be blamed.
Tom Carling was the murdered man and he’d been in a feud for years with his old partner Flint Morgan. They’d split their properties after a falling out and Carling had found gold on his and became wealthy. Over the years Morgan had built up in his mind that he’d been swindled.
The Romeo and Juliet plot surfaces here with Morgan’s stepdaughter and Carling’s son in love, though hard feelings keep them apart. Now Carling’s son wants to kill Flint and the Ranger realizes someone is orchestrating the whole thing. He sets out to learn who and why.
The novels are not long and I read the both since this morning(about eight hours). These books are woth a look to western fans. All eight magazine stories are in four volumes(one in the first and three in the fourth).
