I’m a little late to the party on this one. Didn’t get the email until I arose this morning, albeit early this morning. I was on the verge of passing this week, then decided to cheat a little bit and link to a movie already posted on. COP HATER was the first 87th Precinct novel and this movie was made in 1958.
I’m including a couple of clips this time to show some of the “youthful” players that went on to bigger careers.
The first clip has Robert Loggia as Steve Carelli and Vincent(Vince) Gardenia as Danny Gimp. Look closely and see Gardenia pass Gerald S. O’Loughlin. He’s also in the background and late angles of the second clip.
This clip has Lieutenant Byrnes(Russell Hardie) interviewing a young gang leader, Jerry Orbach.
For Gardenia and Orbach, it was their first credited movie roles.
Cool. Thanks, Randy…and sorry for the delay in asking you! A very NYC production, this, clearly…
Jeez, I’d overlooked the fact there even was an 87th Precinct film.
It seems, Evan, that the series has been tapped quite frequently. Even more than I realized.
Here’s what I found:
1. Cop Hater(1958)
2. The Mugger(1958)
3. The Pusher(1960)
4. NBC Series(1961-62)
5. Tengoku To Jigoku(High and Low)(1963, Japan)
6. Sans Mobile Apparent(Without Apparent Motive)(1972, France/Italy)
7. Fuzz(1972)
8. Columbo: No Time To Die(So Long As You Both Shall Live)1992
9. Columbo: Undercover(Jigsaw)1994
10. Lightning(NBC, 1995)
11. Ice(NBC,1996)
12. Heatwave(NBC, 1997)
