I never saw The Beatles live for a combination of resaons: to young, not much money back then, and, most importantly, they never came anywhere close to North Carolina back then, sticking mostly to the big cities. I probably would have hated it anyway, with all those girls screaming. The Beatles themselves have said it got so bad they couldn’t even hear themselves playing at the shows.
But I did see Sir Paul McCartney in Raleigh, North Carolina at a sold out show in North Carolina State’s football stadium. We knew we were in for long waits when we found cars lined up along the freeway when we neared the exit ramp to the stadium. Yes, the line was backed up that far. We ended up parked in the middle of a field and had a fair walk to the stadium area.
It was worth it.
I never saw them either. I am a little older than you, but still didn’t have much money (freshman in college), and though they did come to L.A. I couldn’t imagine driving up there and dealing with the crowds, audience, etc. It was so much easier, and more enjoyable, I suspect, to listen to the records while sitting in the sun on the patio out back (we lived at the beach at the time) and having a beer.
I certainly did like some of his stuff with Wings. “I fell into the sun with a mighty crash.”
