Duke University defeated Michigan State tonight, 74-69, to break the NCAA men’s basketball record for Coach K, passing Bobby Knight with which he was tied going into the game. Michigan State didn’t make it easy for the Dukies, whittling away the twenty point lead Duke had put up, 61-41, with a 28-13 run down the stretch.
From this point on, each win sets the new record. I don’t know who, but someday someone will likely break Coach K’s record, whatever he ends up with.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, affectionately known as Coach K, tied Bobby Knight’s NCAA Men’s basketball wins record at 902 earlier this evening. They showed several clips from interviews between the two men, mentor and student going back to Coach K’s days as a cadet at West Point when Knight was head coach. Knight recommended him for the job at the Point before he took the Duke job a few years later.
Krzyzewski’s chance to break the record comes Tuesday night at Madison Square garden when they face Michigan State at 7:00 p.m. in the State Farm Championship Classic.
