I was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray live years ago before his untimely death. Unfortunately it was only as an opening act for Huey Lewis and The News. There we were, two guys in their thirties, sitting in the middle of a bunch of teenagers who were there only to see Huey Lewis(my buddy and I were the opposite), listening to the boos while our boy played(he did play for an hour though). We hooted and “hollered” enough to make up for it though.
One of the great blues guitar players ever born, he brought the music to a whole new audience that was used to listening to “pop” music. Much under appreciated.
As so many musicians before him, Stevie Ray died way too young. The world is a sorrier place for all of them.
