My inner geek is starting to emerge after a long hiatus despite my best efforts. I was warm to a new version of Star Trek all along. However, Alan Dean Foster is doing the novelization and has said, after seeing a screening, that the film is good. He ought to know.
This new trailer shows scenes that most fans have had to imagine in the past. Some were taken directly from some of the novels, which Roddenberry always said weren’t canon.
I have a few problems: the ship’s too shiny-chrome for one thing. I can live with it. The original actors would have been too old even in the show’s original run, let alone now, to show their first meetings. This movie seems to have all that.
Bruce Greenwood plays Christopher Pike in these scenes with the young Kirk.
It definitely has that Star Trek feel. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
