I’m not sure what the Saints coaching staff had in mind when they rested Drew Brees and a number of their other key players. I’m by no means an expert on the workings of a team, just an enthusiastic fan, but it seems to me one wouldn’t want to go into the playoffs on a three game losing streak. I can’t seem how that can build confidence. They must know something I don’t know.
They went down to the Panthers 23-10, finishing with a 13-3 record. The Panthers ended the season with a three game win streak and looked dominant, finishing their year at five hundred after that 0-3 start.
Matt Moore looked good and one wonders what will happen next year. They have already announced the entire coaching staff will be back. John Fox likes Jake, who has a guaranteed twelve million dollar contract, but is on the final year of his deal. Consensus is that he will go with who wins, so we might expect a battle for the starting job in training camp and the exhibition season.
The Jets made a statement yesterday in their game with the Bengals, beating them 37-0. It was probably a good idea, even though the Bengals were missing a few players from minor aches and pains, and resting others. They have to go into Cincinnati next week for the wild card round.
The ‘Skins ended their season with a loss to the Chargers 23-20, playing a team that has now won eleven games in a row. Word is that Jim Zorn will be fired today. I feel bad for him. He wasn’t qualified for the job and was thrust into it before he was ready. Hired originally as quarterbacks coach, he was given the job when the team couldn’t land a A coach two years ago.
This week wound up the regular season. Now it’s on to the playoffs. Best of luck to the Saints and the Jets. May they meet in the Super Bowl.
