Here are the covers of the six tie-in novels of the original Five-O.

The first two are by Michael Avallone. The two Whitmans are by Robert Sidney Bowen and Leo R. Ellis and the last two, English publication only, are by Herbert Harris.

The new Hawaii Five-O debuted tonight. How was it? Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Tolerable. This one was the origin with characters completely different from the original. We’ll see what they come up with next.

I was a fan of the original for the first five years or so, trying never to miss an episode. Probably didn’t do that though as it was before VCRs and such. The last few years it was on, you couldn’t have made me watch an episode. Jack Lord started changing things, dumping original cast members as he was the “star.”
