New In The House

1: Zenya – E. C. Tubb: Earl Dumarest had found clues to the location of his home world, Earth. He’d also found a bit of knowledge that The Cyclans, those human/cyborg computers that had plagued him for years needed in their plans for domination of the human race.

He becomes obligated to a woman named Zenya to lead an army of her faction while the Cyclans closed in on him.

2: Hellcats and Honeygirls – Lawrence Block and Donald E. Westlake: three novels co-written back in the fifties when the two mystery greats were struggling writers trying to make a living. Marketed then as soft core porn, they are quite tame when read today. What they are are well written novels about people.

3: Tom Swift and The Visitor From Planet X(ebook) – Victor Appleton II: from 1961, one of the series of boys adventure/science fiction published in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Young Tom invents a robot-like machine to house the electronic visitor from outer space. Agents from a foreign planet not aligned with the US plan to grab it instead.

4: Watchlist(ebook) edited by Jeffery Deaver: a free ebookf from the International Thriller Writers originally published as an audio book then a paper book. It’s a round robin novel with a number of writers contributing chapters.

5: Ambushed – J. Lee Butts: a novel featuring Deputy Marshall Hayden Tilton in pursuit of the Dawson gang who were plundering their way across the Arkansas territory, leaving in their wake mutilated corpses.

6: CSI: Shock Treatment – Greg Cox: a novel based on the elevision series. An actor on a reality TV show ends up dying. Was it a prank gone bad or murder? The Vegas crime scene investigators are assigned to the case.

7: Shootout of The Mountain Man – William W. Johnstone with J. A. Johnstone: Smoke Jensen goes to the rescue of his brother-in-law, Billy Ray Cabot, kid brother of his deceased first wife. he’s scheduled to be hanged for murder, when in fact he’d been set up by a crooked sheriff. he was undercover, being a railroad detective, in the Dodd gang, and was supposed to have deputies on hand when the gang held up a train. Instead, he was left alone and when Dodd killed a man, he was left holding the bag.

8: Home Invasion – William W. Johnstone with J. A. Johnstone: an elderly couple defends their home against thieves, shooting one, and get sued by the thief. The small town’s reaction is to disarm the populace, leaving them vulnerable to every crook and killer in the area. But some are not going quietly and plan to fight back!

9: Ride The High Range – Charles G. West: Jim Moran had always been a loner, no real family. When he makes a new friend, he’s taken into the tribe and given a new name, Rider Twelve Horses, he feels peace. It doesn’t last. When his friend is brutalized by a trio of killers, Moran takes up the vengeance trail.

10: Brass Knuckles – Frank Gruber: a collection of the pulp author’s Oliver Quade, Human Encyclopedia, mystery tales.

11 & 12: Twist of Cain and Day of Judgment – Frank Rich: books three and four of the Jake Strait adventure series. It’s 2031 and professional bogeyman Jake Strait makes a habit of standing in the way of the corrupt, the criminal, the rich in this world gone awry.

13: The Remains – Vincent Zandri: Thirty years before, twin sisters Rebecca and Molly Underhill had been kidnapped by a man who lived in the woods behind their farm. After a harrowing three hours, the siblings escaped, the man was hunted down and sent to prison. The sisters would never talk about those three hours.

Today, Rebecca(her sister had passed away from cancer years before) starts getting nasty text messages and begins to realize that the terror has returned.

14 & 15: Time Quadrants & Falling Backward(ebooks) – Henry Melton: science fiction author Melton made an offer I couldn’t refuse; Drop him a line(http://henrymelton.blogspot.com) and he’d send you two ebooks, a story collection and a novel. The first, TIME QUADRANTS, is the story collection and the second, FALLING BACKWARDS, is the novel I selected. All of his stuff look like fun, so I believe I’ll be back regularly for some of his other work. They are available in paper as well, which I’ll likely get.

Worth checking out if you like science fiction.
