inAlias Smith and Jones was an ABC series that ran from 1971 to 1973. It starred Pete Duel as Hannibal Heyes and Ben Murphy as Kid Curry. They were a pair of outlaws wanting to go straight and the deal they made was X amount of time staying out of trouble, then being pardoned for past sins. Since they had never killed anyone, they were eligible. The show was about their adventures in helping other people and the problems they had staying out of trouble in the interim. They were not allowed to tell anyone about the deal and were wanted until such time as the Governor decided they’d filled their end.
It was obviously inspired by Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.
On the last day of 1971, Pete Duel died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and Roger Davis took over the Hannibal Heyes role.
The six novels here were written by Brian Fox, the pen name of W. T. Ballard. Only the first two were published in the United States, the others only in Great Britain.
