Alex is ex-CIA, now a private eye, mostly international cases. The tale is set in the last days of the Soviet Union.
He stumbles into a bizarre plot to assassinate Gorbachev and learns his one suspect is a victim herself, a new technology that makes people betray friends, country, associates. The coercion of the title is the result.
I found this an absorbing thriller that author Tim Tigner efficiently distributes action as he builds toward a climax. And he even throws in a twist at the end that grabbed me.
