Martin Edwards recommended the book on his blog, DO YOU WRITE UNDER YOUR OWN NAME?, way back on October 2 of last year. After reading this fine novel, I wondered why I let it languish so long. It looked interesting and I found a copy, so what happened. I can only plead what most of us ,readers, do: too many books, more than I could possibly read. But there’s always something new that catches one’s eye.
Happily, this one was a lot of fun. The writing moved along nicely and, as Martin noted, the private eyes here are not your standard tough guys. Anna Lee is just a young woman doing what she likes, though low on the totem pole at the agency for which she works. She gets all the scut work and attacks it with the same vigor your standard fictional PI does a murder case.
What she finds is a bit more than anyone expected. grieving parents want their daughter’s “accidental” death investigated.
I urge you to read Martin’s fine review. He does a great job of it, making me want to find this one. It’s entirely my own fault I took so long to get to it.
Bad move on my part.
